Chalkboard Paint and Cranberries

If you read my recent post you know I parted with a bunch of stuff at two recent garage sales. I put this metal tray out for the sale but during pricing it was granted a reprieve.  At that moment I had an idea for how I could use it, and it was tucked away...safe from eager buyers. I decided it would be great as a magnet board.  I could display snapshots, or use it to hold tickets or invitations to upcoming events. I wanted to paint a border on the lip and that required some planning and measuring.  I started to paint my first idea....didn't like how it looked....eliminated the idea of letting the white show....remeasured and marked off the new pattern.......and started painting again.  This one I liked better so I completed the border in geranium and black The black I used is actually chalkboard paint.  And that is what I used to paint the body of the tray as well. I had the little circular magnets and I found some silver buttons that did not have to be glued onto the mag

Repertory Theatre Apartments

It has been awhile since I have done a painting project with parameters not of my own making. This one came to me with creative license and enough guidelines to stretch my imagination. My friend, Vicki Dreste, is doing one of the apartments in the Repertory Theatre Showcase Project. Fourteen apartments are being renovated and decorated by local interior designers for a Showcase sponsored by St. Louis At Home Magazine that opens to the public on Aug. 27th. My assignment is to make this lampshade work in a bedroom with a dark brown headboard, neutral cream colored bedspread and these fabrics and artwork. Several ideas have been mulled over and rejected for one reason or another. These apartments will be occupied by visiting actors and directors following the showcase event.  So along with the color boundaries already established, it is important to keep it gender neutral.  Some of what is taking place in the other rooms of this apartment can be seen on Vicki's blog.

Annie Sloan Giveaway

I could not pass up this opportunity at a chance to win every single color in the Annie Sloan paint line.  I have three chances to win on: http://www.robynstorydesigns.blogspot.com/ I have many projects waiting for that paint so I just have to win!

Checking In

It has been awhile since the last post and with several good reasons.  I moved everything out of my storage area, had two garage sales two Saturdays in a row,  and then repacked and rearranged and organized my entire studio.  Big sigh, sore muscles, tired feet, and a great sense of accomplishment and relief. I let go of things I was tired of, things I had purchased on a whim that really stopped working for me as soon as I unloaded them, and some things I liked but knew were near the bottom of the redo list.  Yes, we all know what that means....I'm ready for more stuff.  Maybe yes and maybe not.  I went to an estate sale and one of my favorite resale shops without purchasing a single item.  However, my daughter was cleaning out the basement of her rental unit and I could not let these three items end up in the dumpster. Cute little ladder that won't take up much space in my already fully stocked studio. What used to be a chair... is now referred to as a stool.  Can'
