Celebrating Freedom

While it is still July, I thought I better post my red, white, and blue party. Since my retirement coincided with my July birthday, I decided to celebrate my new found freedom and independence. I picked this up at a garage sale and sprayed it silver. I don't doubt it will surface again in another color for another event. It is really made to hold Christmas cards but the stars are a perfect July centerpiece. You may remember my post on mercury glass vases for the Winter holidays. Those same vases and part of the arrangement was recycled for Spring. And once again, the same arrangement but with stars of red and blue. Tissue paper and netting in the appropriate colors and they lived to see another holiday. No real fireworks but a celebration of that caliber just the same. Raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries provided the right colors for dessert. A pretty great day all around. I'm hoping that retirement means those waiting projects will be compl

Food Truck Friday in Tower Grove Park

Last night was my first time at Food Truck Friday so I took a stroll just to check it out.  Lots of other people had the same idea.  I had no idea it would be so well attended. The ideal way to enjoy the event is to bring a blanket or folding chairs so you can relax and enjoy the food. Some people had this part well planned out.  I even saw someone with a folding table. The food trucks are lined up along Southwest Drive. So you find something that looks good to you and get in line. While I was there this truck had the longest line. I took a picture of the line to show you what I mean.  I think these guys decided to find a truck with a shorter line. There were lots of choices and I know I would want to taste the food from more than one. Purchases must be made with cash so be sure to plan ahead with that in mind. It's a good idea to bring your own beverages, or you can get in the beer line. Desert was not forgotten as you can see here. There were also TWO cupcake truc

Horror Vacui

I have been very busy preparing for a yard sale to clear some space in my studio so I have room to work.  Yesterday I took a little time out to get my hair colored.  As I was leaving the salon, I slipped thru the service alley to pick up an iced coffee one block over.  On the way back to my car via the same  route, I spotted something that was blocked from my view on the way over.   I blinked when I saw it but it was still there when my eyes few open. It definately has character. I sort of expected it to fall apart when I touched it. There had to be a good reason it was in the, "take it if you want it" sector. I was a little too excited to see this until I took it out of my car when I arrived home.  I don't think it's a really big deal but I'll have to get a consultation on that.  Isn't there a law that says when you clear a space nature will suck something in to fill it?  I'm not one to break the law, be it physics or otherwise.

Wendy Werner

I have officially retired after 32 1/2 years at the same job.  Naturally I took my personal items home with me.  One is a photograph taken by a terrific photographer named Wendy Werner.  She also happens to be a friend whose work I admire very much. This is the piece I brought home from the office and carried from room to room in my house trying to decide where I liked it most. I finally settled on my bedroom.  It will be the first thing I see when I wake up every morning.  I think it looks lovely against the color of the wall. This is one of Wendy's photographs that hangs in my kitchen.  This looks like a black and white photograph  but actually it is not.  The roof of the Chinese pavilion is black and the fresh snow gives the illusion of a black/white photo.  If you look closely you can see the wheat color of the vegetation in the front. This is a favorite of mine too.  I get to see it when I visit my daughter.  She has this hanging in her entry. This one also belon
