Keeping in Touch

October has been a big social month.  First was Autumn Fest followed by a family reunion/70th birthday party and several days enjoying out-of-town family.  This weekend is another family birthday party for my sister who extended her stay.  Consequently, there has been little time for projects and thus, nothing to post about. However, while browsing through Home Goods with my sister, I did find this rug.  It is a little odd and I do like quirky, so I brought it home.  It has little balls of yarn imbedded in softer threads.  It probably would not be the thing to cozy up on in front of the fire but it feels like a massage for bare feet. I thought it would be nice in the guest room.  (The dust ruffle for the bed is still on the "to-do" list.) It really needs to be in front of the bed which puts it on a diagonal.  I'm trying to decide if I am ok with that angle given the rest of the furniture is against the walls.   I set this area up just to see if I wou

Dessert House

Last night was Autumn Fest in the Heights.  That means neighbors, friends, and total strangers were invited into three houses in the neighborhood to visit with each other, partake of food and drink, and tour the interiors of the homes on the circuit. Although rain threated to put a damper on the event five days in advance, by Saturday the forecast had changed to showers predicted to be out of the area by noon.  The predictions were correct and it was a beautiful evening to take a carriage ride from house to house. My house was the second stop on the tour. Preparations started months in advance with planning meetings. Fall decorations set the mood.   Tablescapes provided colorful backdrops for what was to come. Pumpkins turned pink where the dĂ©cor demanded it. The silver was polished...    to reflect the candlelight. And even the hydrangeas dropped their baby blues and pinks for hues to compliment the dĂ©cor.   The dining room stuck to a

Company's Coming

I am finally getting around to the guest room because I have that valuable motivator called a deadline.  I will be having overnight guests this month.  I won't have it completed, but I hope to have it presentable. I did a post about this back in July.  It has been sitting on the sun porch patiently waiting for someone to carry it to the third floor guest room.  That finally happened last week. I also did a post on this art by Mary A. McColl that I purchased for under a $1.  It got hung this week. I drug these buttons out of the closet for a little photo shoot a couple weeks ago.  So rather than stick them back in the closet, I thought I'd use those as well. This is a lamp that was in my foyer prior to that makeover.  I wanted to use it somewhere and thought perhaps it might be a nice addition to the guest room.   This is how the top looks without the shell shade.  I wasn't sure exactly what should be painted and what could be left as is.
