Thanks a Million

(etsy.com) Around this time most everyone gives a little thought to gratitude.  If we all started making lists we could probably think of a million things for which we are grateful.  Too many to put in one post, so I'm picking just a few. (ohmisterfinch.tumblr.com) I am grateful that some of the things I loved, I no longer have to have to love.   (kidsfashionforever.tumblr.com) I'm grateful that style is more about what makes me comfortable than what's in.   (le-21eme.com) And that no matter how outlandish my choices, there is always someone else who takes it a step further.       (Aleksandra Savalic) I'm thankful I still remember the fun days of my childhood even if children now days would never understand.   (Imma Steal dat.) I am grateful for my slightly beat up '98 Dodge Caravan that hauls all my yard sale and alley finds.      Even though these were pretty cool, I'm grateful I no longer have to wake up

Wall Plates

Remember this wall in the foyer? I mentioned earlier it would just have to wait for the right thing to pop up, and until then it would remain blank. And it did....  until I found these two plates marked 40% off at Little Shop Around the Corner.  I didn't think of this wall when I spotted them.  I did, however, think of this drape and knew I would figure out a way to use them. My brother, John, had given me four metal kitchen chairs that were riding that ridge called "Too Far Gone."  They were rusty.  The caps on the legs needed to be replaced. And the seats needed to be totally refurbished.  The sanding alone was enough to give me pause, but sitting on one convinced me they did not deserve the work it would take to restore them.  They sat low to the ground and for someone who is 5'2" that is a rare comment.  However, I did salvage the backs minus the frame that surrounded these curlicues. I sawed off the little pegs that held them to the

Follow up on the Dresser

Now that I had found the dresser for my bedroom , I was eager to get it painted. It will be in the same room as this piece. However, two pieces in this color would be over the top, even for me. I washed it down while I thought about color. I removed the hardware while I thought about color. I primed it while I thought about color. Once I ran out of excuses, I bought three colors of green and dove into the painting.  I started with Sherwin Williams Hearts of Palm #6415. Then I added SW Sassy Green #6416 to the details.  The frame around the drawers got a coat of Chopped Dill, Benjamin Moore 496. I painted the sides the Sassy Green, and for the top I used Chopped Dill. At this point I was uncertain about what to do next. Should I add a glaze?  I did try a glaze in the darkest green color but quickly wiped it off. I thought about adding turquoise which was a color that I really wanted to pull out of the pillows. I finally decid

Dresser is a Close Fit

I have been on the lookout for a dresser for the bedroom.  This week I lifted that wish to a higher priority.  I saw one at Vincent de Paul but decided it had more character than one piece can handle.  Then today I saw this at the Clubhouse Shop. I certainly liked it.  I especially like the serpentine front.  It was well constructed and even had a large unattached mirror that went with it.  But I held back and with good reason.  Remember, the dresser will be in the same room with this piece.   Yes, really! I don't expect to find a match for this piece but I hoped to find something that looks like a distant cousin.  I revisited a charitable resale shop that had a piece that might work.  Today it was marked down $40.  I had dismissed it a couple weeks ago but this was enough to get me to reconsider.  The staff confirmed what I already knew:  THEY DO NOT HELP LOAD UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.  That meant I would have to come back with help when I could find help.  The angels we
